historical anthropologist. i view archival and archaeological records through an ethnographic lens to gain a critical understanding of our shared past. i explore the ways science and modernity forged property relations that instigated labor through agriculture in England's seventeenth century colonies. i received my PhD in Anthropology at the University of South Carolina in 2020. |
FieldworkHistorical ArchaeologyI have been an archaeologist since 1997 and have worked for The Charleston Museum, Historic Charleston Foundation, Brockington and Associates, South Carolina State Parks, and the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. I have also been an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston (2014-2015) and Coastal Carolina University (2018-2019). Currently I am an Archaeologist with New South and Associates, Inc. based in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

PORTFOLIOCool Projects In America I have directed archaeology projects in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia (1998-current). I have also directed projects in New Providence, The Bahamas (2006 and 2007), and was a site supervisor of a field school on the Mediterranean island Cyprus (1998).
I am Principal Investigator on the Lord Ashley site, a settlement within the First Earl of Shaftesbury's St. Giles Kussoe plantation, established c.1674 on the Ashley River 25 miles upriver from Charleston, South Carolina. I am also co-Principal Investigator with my wife, Nicole Isenbarger, at Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, Georgia. |
